The association of Italian Independent Producers confers the 2012 PMI Award “in memory of”  Giancarlo Bigazzi for “his important contribution to the advancement of Italian musical culture in the world”. PMI consists of over 130 independent music-producing companies. It is part of the Italian Cultural Confindustria association and represents Italian independent record production on the Board of the European Association of Independent Producers.

Mario Limongelli – Independent Musical Authors

Every year we give the award to the person who has most distinguished him/herself in the field of musical culture. With his compositions, the lyrics-writer Giancarlo Bigazzi has promoted the spread of Italian musical culture in the world. In 2006 we gave the prize to Andrea Bocelli, in 2007 to Enrico Morricone, in 2009 to Dori Ghezzi and Fabrizio De André, in 2010 to Paolo Conte, in 2011 to Adriano Celentano. It is the first time the award has been given posthumously, but it would have been wrong not to commemorate a great author and producer who with his unforgettable tunes contributed to raising the status of Italian music in the world.

Gianna Bigazzi

I’m honoured to receive this prize in memory of my husband Giancarlo. I came to Sanremo for the first time 40 years ago, when Giancarlo wrote “Montagne Verdi” for Marcella Bella. I wish to thank all those who have loved Giancarlo.  I’m still very emotional since it’s only a month since Giancarlo died.
